Shepherd Center, a 152‑bed rehabilitation hospital in Atlanta, faced growing demand and rapid staff expansion that exposed limitations in its legacy AS/400 finance systems. The finance team relied on an iSeries third‑party application and manual processes—sometimes even a typewriter—for on‑demand payroll and special check runs, forcing downtime and creating productivity bottlenecks for diverse check formats and emergency disbursements.

Shepherd Center implemented Bottomline Technologies’ C‑Series with Lawson 10 integration to centralize and automate check disbursement and payroll processing. The solution eliminated manual workarounds, transferred administrative control from IS to finance, simplified special‑run and on‑demand checks, and improved reprinting/inquiry workflows; it also supports refunds, produces thousands of W‑2s/1099s annually, and enabled further automation (labels/wristbands) in the pharmacy.
