Bottomline Technologies, provider of the Secure Payments fraud-detection platform, helped two banks facing the common challenge of rising alert volumes and strained investigation teams. One international bank saw many false positives from an out-of-the-box setup, and a U.S. Tier 2 bank feared a projected 3.5% ACH increase would overwhelm its six investigators—forcing a tradeoff between adding staff and accepting more risk.
Bottomline applied its BTune service (expert tuning) and F.A.S.T. simulation tool to retune rules, prioritize threats like BEC and outbound/online-originated payments, and model outcomes before changes. The result was fewer, higher-quality alerts, improved investigator focus (including a $54,000 fraud recovery), lighter or stable workloads despite growth, and alignment of alerting with each bank’s risk tolerance without hiring additional staff.
