allpay Limited, a UK payments specialist that handles around £5bn a year, aimed to add “Banking Lite” features to its prepaid card accounts so benefit claimants could receive and manage funds like a conventional bank account. The challenge was to enable same‑day/Faster Payments, Direct Debits and standing orders while meeting regulatory, scalability and complex bank‑interfacing requirements for local authorities.

allpay implemented a phased solution with Bottomline Technologies’ Agency Services, Carta Worldwide’s hosted banking platform and Raphaels Bank as sponsor, integrating Faster Payments, Bacs, Direct Debit management and account‑validation APIs. The launch delivered a prepaid portal with bank‑like functionality, migrated ~40 local authority clients and tens of thousands of accounts, improved cost efficiency, increased competitive advantage and positioned allpay for further market expansion.
