llwyn Revolutionises UK National Lottery MidTier Prize Payments with Payout Automation

Allwyn, the new operator of The National Lottery, was facing an inefficient mid‑tier prize payment process: despite introducing an online claims form in 2024, the organisation still issued around 50,000 cheques a year to pay over £2.8m each month in retail‑bought mid‑tier prizes, creating delays, high processing costs and customer inconvenience.

Allwyn implemented PTX Payouts with Bottomline’s Confirmation of Payee (CoP) for Business and switched to Faster Payments via a branded PTX portal that pre‑populates beneficiary names and verifies bank details (over 98% pass rate). The change automated and accelerated payouts, drastically reduced cheque volumes and manual administration, improved the claimant experience, cut costs and fraud risk, and redirected more funds toward National Lottery Good Causes.
