PointRoll, a Gannett Company, is a digital display advertising provider whose 78-person Operations team across eight U.S. offices wanted an alternative to a purely manager-driven bonus program. Regional Director Danielle Rice piloted Bonusly to create a peer-driven recognition system that would encourage more frequent positive feedback and better reflect company values.
The three-month pilot used a points-based system with monthly $100 gift cards for the top three earners and department-wide announcements highlighting winners and values. Adoption was rapid and engagement strong — 443 bonuses given, 82% of users giving, 95% receiving, 16 points average, and three bonuses per user per month — providing managers with actionable insights (dependability emerged as the most rewarded value) and leading to a proposed company-wide rollout.
