MyNorth Media - Customer Case Study

MyNorth Media, a Traverse City–based media company reaching 1.5 million readers with 26 employees, needed a better way to incentivize teamwork and build a daily culture of appreciation than traditional top-down bonuses. Founder and President Deb Fellows sought a simple, peer-driven solution to recognize the many small contributions that managers might miss.

They implemented Bonusly in June 2013 with a $10 monthly allowance per employee; adoption was immediate. The peer-recognition program generated 301 bonuses, with 96% of staff giving and 100% receiving (average bonus $1.85, 3.5 bonuses per person per month), costing roughly $7 per employee per month. Public payouts and visible recognition made reward moments energizing and effectively replaced the impractical top-down approach.
