Case Study: Railinc achieves automated big-data orchestration and keeps 1.6M railcars rolling with BMC Software's Control-M

A BMC Software Case Study

Preview of the Railinc Case Study

Railinc leverages big data and automation to help keep 1.6MM railcars rolling across 140K miles of track

Railinc, the rail industry’s IT and data hub, collects more than 11 million daily data points from sensors across 140,000 miles of track to support 1.6 million railcars and thousands of customers. To turn that raw data into actionable intelligence in Hadoop, Railinc needed to automate the scheduling of complex, interdependent processes that move massive volumes of data among critical applications for processing, analysis, and delivery.

BMC’s Control-M automated and integrated those big data workflows, tracking dependencies, managing SLAs with proactive alerts, and delivering data where and when it’s needed. The solution supports Railinc’s Asset Health initiatives, automates processing for 40,000+ locomotives and 1.6M railcars, enables dual-site data management for continuity and load balancing, and scales to meet expected growth from ~50 TB to ~100 TB.
