Retailer Automates ‘Impossible’ Journal Entries With Help From a Digital Workforce

Anon-UK-Retailer, a high-end UK retailer, faced a labor-intensive, nonstandard finance process that produced 18,000 journal entries a year—each requiring data gathering from multiple sources, spreadsheet validation and late-night work to meet month- and year-end deadlines. Although the uniqueness of each journal seemed to make automation impossible, the company turned to the SS&C Blue Prism digital workforce to tackle the challenge.

SS&C Blue Prism implemented a modular solution where two digital workers use finance-created templates and a business-rules document to collect, standardize (macros and pivot tables) and submit journal entries for approval. The automation processed the 18,000 entries, saved about 7,000 hours across nine financial teams, sped up journal processing and reduced late-night work, improving employee satisfaction.
