Walgreens, a national retailer with nearly 10,000 stores and more than 230,000 employees, faced stretched HR and payroll teams while refreshing core HR systems and could not add headcount to handle increased transactional work. To address this, Walgreens partnered with SS&C Blue Prism to deploy intelligent automation and a digital workforce to support HR shared services and preserve focus on the employee experience.
SS&C Blue Prism implemented digital workers (with OCR for document handling) to process about 2,000 leave-of-absence requests daily, load leave and pay data across systems, and automate workers’ compensation data exchange with claims providers; the bots also read and route personnel documents by store and employee ID. The automation improved the employee experience, enabled HR to shift from transactional tasks, and drove a 73% increase in shared services efficiency.
