Indiana University Health Speeds Pre-Registrations by More Than 30% with Intelligent Automation

Indiana University Health, a 16-hospital academic health system and the largest healthcare provider in Indiana, faced staffing shortages and a high-volume, repetitive patient registration workload—more than 250,000 appointments per month. To streamline registration and ensure accurate patient records for quality care and reimbursement, IU Health deployed intelligent process automation (IPA) from SS&C Blue Prism in partnership with Digital Workforce Solution.

Using SS&C Blue Prism digital workers, IU Health automated registration workflows—first leveraging three digital workers to register 15,000 NCAA tournament participants and then scaling to 65 digital workers across more than 20 processes. The automation now pre-registers 300,000+ appointments monthly, speeds pre-registration by more than 30% (reducing time per patient from 3.4 to 2.5 minutes), frees staff for patient-facing work, and improves data accuracy for timely claims processing.
