How Back Office Process Automation Is Increasing Efficiency, Productivity and Strategic Focus Within Local Government

Arvato, a global business outsourcing partner working with local government, faced rising volumes of complex, repetitive back‑office work in its revenues & benefits services due to spending cuts and welfare reform. To tackle costly, manual tasks like scanning and data entry, Arvato piloted Robotic Process Automation using SS&C Blue Prism’s RPA solution to prove automation could increase speed, accuracy and auditability.

Working with SS&C Blue Prism, Arvato formed an “Agility Team,” trained internal Blue Prism developers and automated processes such as council tax direct‑debit sign‑ups, discount applications and document indexing. The pilot achieved 100% auditability, cut the cost of processing a council tax direct debit from £1 to £0.20, reduced input time from five minutes to under one minute, freed the equivalent of two full‑time employees for strategic work, improved quality and created a scalable, low‑integration model for wider rollout.
