Highmark Health Processes 2.1 million COVID-19 Claims with Intelligent Automation

Lumevity, the subsidiary spun out of Highmark Health’s thinkUP transformation program, was tasked with rapidly scaling automation to help Highmark Health handle a surge of COVID-19 claims and free staff for patient care. With manual processing peaking at roughly 10,000 COVID-19 claims per day amid a new remote work environment, Lumevity turned to SS&C Blue Prism and its Blue Prism digital workers (including resources from Blue Prism’s COVID-19 relief program) to accelerate claims handling and reduce repetitive work.

SS&C Blue Prism delivered three digital workers in six days, enabling rapid fee waivers and claims processing; this automation cleared 200,000 claims in five days, contributed to processing 2.1 million COVID-19-related claims overall, and helped save an estimated 180,000 work hours in under two years. The Blue Prism solution scaled to support 130 processes, leveraged the Blue Prism Digital Exchange for faster reuse, and let case managers focus on higher-value care — a result enabled and implemented through SS&C Blue Prism’s automation platform.
