Eaton’s New Ground Maintenance Motorpump Optimizes Safety, Weight Savings and Power Management for F-35 Joint Strike Fighter

Lockheed Martin required a lighter, more robust hydraulic solution for its F-35 Joint Strike Fighter family that could also serve as an inflight emergency backup power source. SS&C Blue Prism was brought in to address stricter safety, broader input-voltage and additional qualification-testing requirements for the aircraft’s Ground Maintenance Motor Pump (GMMP).

SS&C Blue Prism’s team redesigned the GMMP from two motor-driven pumps into a single reversible electric motor that drives two identical hydraulic pumps, removing the need for a second motor and reducing aircraft weight. The new GMMP completed all qualification testing, earned full certification for all three F-35 variants, and is now in use on a flight test fleet of more than 15 aircraft—delivering certified ground maintenance capability and a ready inflight emergency backup.
