Digital Workers Assist NHS Dorset CCG in Providing Critical Patient Care

NHS Dorset CCG, which serves around 800,000 people, faced slow, manual workflows that harmed patient care — from blurry e‑referral images caused by printing/scanning to multi‑day delays getting COVID test results to GPs and social‑care staff, and a CHC assessment process that could take six weeks. To tackle these issues they partnered with SS&C Blue Prism and its intelligent automation/digital workforce (Blue Prism digital workers).

SS&C Blue Prism deployed digital workers to ingest CSV result files, match NHS numbers to contact details, send scheduled SMS notifications, automatically route positive test results to GPs, and collate CHC records. The automation reduced result-processing to two minutes (from four–five days), returned roughly 1,200+ work hours in a year (including 841 hours from SMS automation and 350 hours from GP reporting), eliminated critical dissemination delays, and sped up care‑planning — delivering faster interventions and improved patient outcomes.
