Minnesota State Improves Student, Staff Experience with Massive Multi-Source Migration to Microsoft 365

Minnesota State, a system of thirty colleges and seven universities across fifty-four campuses, set out in 2015 to move students, faculty, and staff into a single Office 365 tenant. The goal was to create a more seamless experience across campuses while reducing duplication of data and improving collaboration, but the scale of the project created major challenges around complexity, timing, and limited resources.

With BitTitan and SHI involved early in the effort, Minnesota State used MigrationWiz to handle a multi-year, multi-stage migration that fit around academic calendars and campus-by-campus needs. Over five years, the core team migrated more than 600,000 mailboxes across twenty-four separate projects, and by early 2020 only one institution remained unmigrated to the core tenant, which now boasted over a million users.
