Medical technology manufacturer saves $880,000 a year in credit card processing fees

Leica Microsystems, a global manufacturer of microscopes and scientific instruments, was struggling to manually process more than 1,000 customer credit card payments per month and was overpaying interchange fees on Visa and Mastercard. To address this, they evaluated payment automation providers and selected Billtrust, including its Business Payments Network (BPN) and virtual card capture technology, to reduce manual entry and lower processing costs.

Billtrust implemented BPN and automated credit card capture, enabling Leica to take advantage of Level II/III processing rates and reduce overall fees. Since partnering in 2019, Leica has realized $79,000 average monthly interchange savings (about $880,000 annually), saw a $73,000 savings in February 2020 alone from a lower effective rate, and stabilized their payments team headcount so staff could focus on strategic initiatives.
