Heavy machinery dealer streamlines order-to-cash and collections operations in the face of pandemic

Louisiana CAT, a more-than-80-year-old Caterpillar equipment dealer serving 31,000+ customers across Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, faced a stretched order-to-cash operation with more than 3,200 customers carrying open balances. Despite earlier investments in Billtrust solutions (including Billtrust Cash Application and Billtrust Invoicing), collections remained highly manual—tracked in Excel and requiring heavy ERP (CODA) coordination—and the collections team was reduced by about 70% during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To address this, Louisiana CAT expanded its use of Billtrust—adding digital invoicing, payments, the Billtrust Business Payments Network (BPN), and implementing Billtrust Collections in early 2020—to automate payments matching and customer outreach. As a result, they achieved a 75% lockbox match rate, 71% electronic invoice presentment, steady month-over-month improvement in current receivables, better customer experience and transparency, and sustained cash flow and productivity with a smaller, remote collections team.
