PlayBetter, a Baltimore-based retailer founded in 2007 that began with golf instructional media and expanded into golf and fitness gear, needed a more scalable ecommerce solution than its legacy ProStores platform to support a growing catalog and big-ticket items like the $2,000 SkyTrak simulator. The company evaluated Shopify and Magento but chose BigCommerce for its balance of built-in features and scalability, with a primary challenge to reduce cart abandonment and improve conversions for high‑AOV purchases.
PlayBetter implemented a site redesign on BigCommerce with an optimized one‑page checkout and multiple payment methods (Amazon Pay, PayPal/Braintree and Klarna). Offering Klarna’s pay-over-time financing reduced friction for expensive purchases, driving a 25% increase in average order value and higher conversions; overall results since the redesign include a 1,100% increase in traffic and a 640% increase in revenue.
