Social Alerts Show 29% Higher Conversion Rate Than General Marketing Emails

Sears Canada, a national retailer, had implemented Bazaarvoice’s Ratings & Reviews, Ask & Answer and Stories to collect customer content but needed a way to re-engage contributors and drive them back to the site more effectively than standard marketing emails. The challenge was to deliver timely, relevant follow‑ups when content was moderated or questions were answered to boost engagement, traffic and conversions.

Sears deployed Bazaarvoice Social Alerts to automatically notify contributors when their reviews, questions or stories were processed. Over eight months these alerts achieved a 186% higher open rate and a 478% higher click‑through rate (nearly 5x) versus general marketing emails, a 29% higher conversion rate and a 37% higher average order value; question alerts saw 96% opt‑in, a 589% higher CTR (nearly 6x) and a 48% higher AOV.
