Petco’s Spotted sampling program drives 48% revenue increase on sampled products

Petco, the pet health and wellness retailer, wanted to boost awareness, SEO traffic, and conversions for its Wholehearted and Reddy private-label brands, but those products were not generating enough reviews or user-generated content. Working with Bazaarvoice and its Ratings & Reviews, Questions & Answers, and sampling capabilities, Petco launched the Spotted sampling program to create more high-quality reviews and images that would help shoppers discover and trust its products.

Bazaarvoice implemented Spotted, a managed sampling program that sends products to shoppers in exchange for honest reviews, including themed boxes for seasonal items. The results were strong: Petco reported a 67% increase in organically ranked pages, 140% more organic impressions, 80% more organic clicks, and a 48% increase in revenue per visit on sampled products, driven by a 28% higher conversion rate and 15% higher average order value. Review response rate topped 90%, with a 405% lift in review volume and a 9% increase in average ratings.
