Tower Automotive engaged Bastian Solutions to design and install a flagship component feed system for a new Nissan assembly line in Smyrna, Tennessee. Their objectives were to install equipment between shifts without disrupting production, provide ergonomic part presentation to minimize injuries and fatigue while maintaining build rate, and reduce fork truck traffic; Bastian Solutions was contracted to deliver lift tables and ergonomic handling equipment to meet those goals.

Bastian Solutions supplied a turnkey system including 140 Southworth lift tables and articulating lift & tilt tables with special ergonomic controls, 12 Big Joe walkies for WIP container transport, 10 heavy unit-load conveyors with automatic indexing, and two 4,000 lb frame lifts; fabrication, assembly and testing were done off-site and the equipment shipped ahead of schedule. The solution reduced fork truck activity—cutting expense, downtime and inefficiency—while the certified ergonomic design minimized reaching and repetitive motion and maintained maximum production.
