Sanofi-Aventis engaged Bastian Solutions to build a new distribution center in Scranton, PA to meet growing peak‑season vaccination demand and future design‑year throughput with room for expansion. Key challenges included increasing capacity, creating a more ergonomic packing area for order preparation, and improving packaging and shipping methods to ensure dry‑ice packed items met FDA temperature requirements.

Bastian Solutions delivered a comprehensive automated material‑handling and packaging system — including motorized roller conveyors, Hytrol zero‑pressure accumulation, multi‑lane merges, a ProSort shoe sorter, inline scales and scanners, dynamic sort lane allocation, PC‑based controls/HMI, shrink tunnels and ergonomic pallet tables. The solution met Sanofi‑Aventis’s capacity, ergonomic and product‑packaging goals, ensured compliant dry‑ice shipping, and led to Bastian working on upgrades at two additional Aventis facilities in Kansas City and Reno.
