Fresenius Medical Care, a global leader in dialysis products, faced the need for a much more flexible packaging line to handle numerous products and varying order batch sizes, plus multiple quality inspection steps before palletizing and shipping. Bastian Solutions was engaged to provide an automated packaging and inspection system, deploying technologies such as Series 4000 robotic palletizers, Hytrol Gen 3 conveyors, Mettler Toledo check weighers, label/apply systems and a centralized HMI/control system.

Bastian Solutions implemented a complete automated line that supports simultaneous packing of two different products for redundancy and higher throughput, with bi-directional conveyors and control-system safeguards to protect product integrity. The centralized controls and automated quality-check interlocks enable rapid changeovers; the new system runs at up to 23 cases per minute on the palletizers and processes orders two times faster than the previous system.
