Doctors Foster & Smith, a provider of animal supplies shipping from a distribution center in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, needed to accommodate large “big bulky” products that could not travel on their existing conveyor and to add a vaccine order‑fulfillment area. They also required the work to be done while the DC operated six days a week and to be live before the busy season. Bastian Solutions was engaged to deliver a specialized picking and conveyor/tote‑routing solution with warehouse control integration to address these challenges.

Bastian Solutions installed a new last‑pick area with multiple pick zones, a vaccine pick area, recirculation loop, order consolidation and new pack area, connecting the new conveyor and tote routing to the existing pick module and outbound sorter and tying it into the warehouse control system. The system met design throughput quickly at startup, was completed on the required schedule before the busy season, allowed Doctors Foster & Smith to continue operations undisturbed during installation, and seamlessly integrated large products into the existing system.
