B&H Photo, a leading retailer of new and used imaging products, needed to expand and modernize its visible in‑store materials handling to service a new second retail floor and handle increased sales volume. Key requirements included quiet, aesthetically pleasing equipment on the retail floor, a minimal footprint for expensive Manhattan retail space, and an overnight installation that would not disrupt store operations. Bastian Solutions was engaged to update and expand the existing conveyors and vertical lifts.

Bastian Solutions implemented an integrated system using Intelligent Packaging Systems conveyors with Itoh Denki powered rollers, United Sortation Solutions vertical reciprocating conveyors (VRCs), a NERAK continuous vertical conveyor (CVC), Accu‑Sort Model 201II scanners and Bastian Controls. The phased overnight cutovers preserved store sales, maximized floor space, delivered quiet, attractive operation, and met throughput targets—processing over 6,000 totes per day on weekends—results that exceeded B&H Photo’s expectations.
