Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD Medical) needed to optimize its distribution network for transportation costs and order cycle time, and to develop a new automated distribution facility in the Indianapolis area (to be operated by 3PL Genco) that could absorb a larger share of growing demand. Bastian Solutions was engaged to design and implement the automation and systems integration for the new facility.

Bastian Solutions delivered a high‑throughput automated distribution center—featuring a 300 ft double‑sided shoe sorter with 22 diverts, three 4‑level voice pick modules, a six‑lane high‑speed sawtooth merge, over 8,000 ft of integrated conveyor, mezzanines, scan tunnels, stretch wrappers, print & apply machines, and RedPrairie WCS/WMS integration—producing a high‑volume system with sorters running at 550 ft/min and system throughput measured at 185 (peaking 200–205). As a result, Bastian Solutions enabled BD to meet increased customer demand and achieve the intended network performance improvements.
