A Barracuda Networks Case Study
Frederick County Public Schools, serving 13,000 students and more than 2,000 staff across multiple schools in Virginia, was struggling with unreliable web filtering that couldn’t handle growing network loads or integrate with directory services. Frequent crashes and slow user authentication left IT without granular visibility into student browsing—an unacceptable risk as the district rolled out thousands of Chromebooks and upgraded bandwidth to 200–400 Mbps.
The district deployed the Barracuda Web Security Gateway 910, which provided near–real-time directory authentication, granular user-based policy enforcement (including Chromebooks without agents), and stable performance under higher bandwidth. As a result, Frederick County gained comprehensive visibility into browsing activity and network health, reliable content-filtering enforcement, and a better support experience from their vendor.
