Kramer Consulting, a Kentucky-based MSP founded in 1995 that specializes in mid-market clients and auto dealerships, was called in when a nine-location dealer chain experienced routine internet slowdowns from maxed-out bandwidth. Facing complex regulatory requirements and unwilling to add costly capacity, the dealer needed a way to identify and stop wasteful web usage that was degrading business operations.
Kramer deployed a Barracuda Web Security Gateway, ran a month-long covert usage baseline, then shared the findings (social media, news/entertainment and pornography were top bandwidth consumers; legitimate car-related traffic was only 8%). The team used the gateway’s granular policy controls to cap nonessential categories, prompting a cultural shift toward appropriate use, eliminating the need for expensive bandwidth upgrades, and paying for the appliance within four months.
