Large Texas school district boosts security and slashes costs

Judson ISD, a large San Antonio school district serving about 26,000 students across 31 schools, was hit by a major ransomware attack that exposed gaps in its email security and left its legacy tape backups vulnerable. The district’s move to Microsoft 365 further highlighted the need for modern cloud protection and faster, more reliable recovery.

Judson deployed Barracuda Email Protection, Cloud-to-Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365, Barracuda Backup (with immutable backups and cloud replication) and later Barracuda CloudGen Firewalls. The result was a dramatic drop in phishing reaching inboxes, automated backups and incident response that reduced IT overhead, compliance-ready immutable backups for cyber insurance, faster recoveries, and a stronger overall security posture — delivering improved protection and lower operational costs.
