Global Manufacturer Takes Ransomware in Stride

Hayward Tyler, a 200-year-old UK-based global manufacturer of custom-engineered pumps and motors for the energy sector with a virtualized VMware environment, was hit by a Cryptolocker ransomware attack that encrypted business-critical contracts, engineering documents and customer data—threatening revenue, scheduled orders and the company’s reputation.

Using Barracuda Backup appliances with cloud replication and a Barracuda Web Security Gateway, IT identified and removed the encrypted files and restored clean copies from backups, bringing systems back online within an hour. No ransom was paid, downtime was minimized, and normal operations resumed quickly.
