Fenwal Blood Technologies Increase Scalability and Performance of Microsoft solutions with Barracuda Load Balancers

Fenwal Blood Technologies, a long-established leader in blood-collection and transfusion technologies, needed to scale its Microsoft communication and collaboration platforms to support more than 6,000 global users while minimizing downtime and improving data center manageability as it built a new facility.

Fenwal deployed three Barracuda Load Balancer Model 340 units (two in an internal HA pair and one in the DMZ) to load balance Exchange, SharePoint, and Office Communication Server traffic. The solution provided high availability, quick deployment (completed in a few hours), and scaled performance—handling over 10,000 SharePoint/Exchange requests per hour and more than 1,000 OCS requests—while meeting the company’s uptime and manageability goals.
