Building powerful, proactive web app security for Dutch retailer BCC

BCC Elektro-specialzaken BV (BCC) is a Dutch omnichannel retailer of home electrical appliances with 63 stores and an e-commerce site that generates about half of its revenue and attracts roughly six million visits a month. Ahead of an IPO the company found its native Microsoft protections insufficient—leaving it exposed to DDoS attacks, persistent scraper and scalper bots, and gaps in email protection and backup.

Working with partner Insight, BCC implemented Barracuda WAF-as-a-Service together with Barracuda Email Protection and Cloud-to-Cloud Backup. The deployment stopped persistent price-scraping bots, delivered unmetered DDoS mitigation, reduced phishing notifications and pay-per-view ad spend from bot traffic, and lowered the company’s risk of data breach while improving overall web app and email security.
