Barracuda’s Web Security Gateway Helps St. Michael’s Hospital to Provide Safe Web Connectivity for Their Employees and Patients

St. Michael’s Hospital, a specialized Slovak medical facility with over 600 staff, moved to a new Bratislava building and needed to modernize its web security and management before opening public Wi‑Fi. The existing Linux proxy only monitored internal traffic, offered limited protection against malware and viruses, and made policy control and reporting slow and difficult.

The hospital deployed a Barracuda Web Security Gateway 410, gaining content filtering, integrated malware protection, granular user-aware policies and real‑time reporting via an intuitive dashboard. After a quick two‑week rollout the gateway now protects roughly 300 workstations and 100+ daily public Wi‑Fi users, provides full user/policy control and visibility, and includes ongoing updates (with a free upgrade after four years).
