Barracuda CloudGen Firewalls enforce security and guarantee application availability for Vrije Universiteit Brussel

Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), a multi‑campus university in Brussels with a dedicated Health Campus, needed to secure segmented networks, provide advanced web and malware protection, and guarantee uninterrupted high‑bandwidth transfers for medical images and live lecture streams—all while being administered by just two‑and‑a‑half IT staff. The challenge was to prioritize critical education and clinical traffic and enforce consistent security without adding heavy operational overhead.

VUB deployed Barracuda CloudGen Firewalls (hardware and virtual) and centralized control via the Barracuda Firewall Control Center with MSP support, using traffic shaping and Advanced Threat Protection to prioritize and secure traffic. The result was optimized bandwidth for critical applications, improved WAN availability and stability, ultra‑secure internet access for students and clinical systems, and effortless centralized management and updates.
