Barracuda and AWS Keep NoMoreRansom.org Safe Despite Thousands of Attacks

No More Ransom is a public-private coalition led by Europol, Dutch police and security firms (including Kaspersky and Intel) that launched NoMoreRansom.org in 2016 to help victims fight ransomware by providing analysis tools, decryption keys and educational resources. Because the site both attracted large legitimate traffic and offered tools to combat cybercriminals, it was an immediate, high-value target for attackers—so the challenge was to build a highly secure, scalable platform that could withstand constant, sophisticated attacks.

The coalition hosted the site on AWS and layered native cloud security with Barracuda Web Application Firewall for application-layer protection, auto-scaling and multi-region failover. The deployment blocked more than 51,000 attacks within days and has identified and blocked over 1 million VPN-based attack requests to date; NoMoreRansom.org has remained online throughout and continues to scale and protect new features.
