Swisscom IT Services, one of Switzerland’s leading IT service providers, faced the challenge of protecting a large, SAP-focused private cloud running on an HP Blade Matrix across 2 locations with roughly 10,000 servers and 8 petabytes of storage. They needed a highly scalable, easily adaptable backup solution that supported Windows and Linux clients, virtual and physical servers, database pre/post tasks, Nagios integration and disaster recovery. Swisscom selected Bacula Systems’ backup software to meet these requirements.

Bacula Systems implemented a template-based backup solution integrated into Swisscom’s private cloud stack, providing backup-to-disk, database integration (MySQL, DB2, MaxDB, Oracle, MS SQL), Nagios compatibility and replication for disaster recovery. The environment now performs near-daily backups of hundreds of Linux and Windows file systems, multiple 100–400 GB databases and two major SAP installation types, delivering enterprise-class support, no license costs, no vendor lock-in, improved stability and proven disaster recovery capability.
