Russell Cellular takes a frontline-first approach to training

Russell Cellular, a Verizon retailer founded in 1993 with more than 600 locations and 2,300 employees, faced a training problem: a static LMS that tracked completion but not mastery, slow, bulky onboarding, and limited follow-up or career-path visibility for frontline staff—contributing to low engagement and high churn. Learning & Development set out to create bite-sized, on-demand training that measured application, supported growth, and accelerated new-hire readiness.

They adopted Axonify as their Catalyst platform (trial Feb 2018, rollout Mar 2018), using microlearning, notifications, gamification, a 10‑day virtual-coach onboarding, certification and a knowledge-on-demand portal alongside RC Home and Quest. Employees who used the platform daily showed marked improvements in sales and productivity, new hires became commissionable faster, managers gained actionable reporting, and overall engagement, retention and contribution to the bottom line improved.
