Ethicon Boosts Selling Power by Keeping Daily Pulse on Medical Reps’ Expertise

Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary that develops surgical technologies, faced a growing training challenge: its field reps must master hundreds of specialized devices and keep up with changing clinical and policy information, yet traditional, one‑size‑fits‑all classroom training was costly, time-consuming and ineffective for a globally dispersed, multi‑level salesforce. The information overload left reps stretched thin, less confident and at risk of missing sales opportunities.

Ethicon implemented Axonify’s mobile microlearning as part of a blended learning ecosystem, giving more than 1,000 reps daily 3–5 minute, personalized training bursts and real‑time knowledge tracking. The program boosted topic knowledge by up to 49%, increased confidence in areas like hernia by over 50%, achieved 90% voluntary participation, and saw 79% of reps report being more knowledgeable and 81% preferring the Axonify method.
