How AP Automation Modernized a Family Construction Business

Sorrells & Co. is a family-run design + build construction firm in Waco, Texas, founded in 1998 that develops residential and commercial projects. Relying on many contractors and suppliers, the company was overwhelmed by paper invoices, missing documents, slow multi-step approval cycles and the need to distribute Friday paychecks in person—a problem made worse by post-pandemic labor shortages and the requirement to integrate with Sage 100 Contractor for job costing.

To fix this, Sorrells implemented TimberScan Titanium in 2019 for invoice automation and added AvidPay in 2021 for electronic payments, creating an integrated purchase-to-pay workflow with assisted ACH options to help transition suppliers. The change eliminated paper, cut invoice processing time (previously two weeks a month), enabled remote approvals and reduced hiring needs, lowered mailing and ACH costs, and gave contractors faster, direct payments and better visibility into transactions.
