Score One for Technology New Home Turf a Win for San Jose Earthquakes, Fans

The San Jose Earthquakes, a Major League Soccer club long without a permanent home, faced limits on attendance, branding and corporate partnerships. Located in Silicon Valley, the team needed a highly engaging, future‑proof technology experience for fans but had a very small IT staff and worried that hardware-based solutions would become obsolete quickly.

Partnering with Avaya, the Quakes opened Avaya Stadium—the MLS’s first cloud‑enabled venue—built on Avaya Fabric Connect and cloud services that run telephony, box office, Wi‑Fi and video over a scalable network. The deployment enabled mobile e‑ticketing, stadium‑wide Wi‑Fi, social sharing on a giant LED screen, and simplified IT via a private cloud; season ticket sales surged past 12,000 in the first season and the stadium is set up to add new capabilities without major hardware upgrades.
