Eastern Sicily’s New 112 PSAP Delivers Modern Emergency Communications for Citizens

Beta 80, together with Avaya and a leading Italian telco, was engaged to design and install Sicily’s first 112 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in Catania to meet European directives. The challenge was to deliver a fault-tolerant, always-on infrastructure serving 3.2 million citizens, handling roughly 2 million calls per year across 30 workstations, and to integrate seamlessly with distributed 2nd-level PSAPs (EMS, fire, law) while migrating services without disruption on a tight timeline.

Beta 80 implemented a turnkey solution combining its CAD suite, Avaya virtualization and communication platforms, workforce optimization, call recording, CAD-to-CAD integrations and a citizen emergency app, with 24/7 support. The PSAP was completed in three months, now manages about 5,000 calls/day (~2M/year), meets EU requirements for caller ID, location and accessibility, provides mutual disaster recovery with a planned Palermo site, and improved emergency response with no service interruption during migration.
