Doctor’s Use of Video Conferencing Leads to Improved Patient Care

St. Josefs-Hospital Wiesbaden is a regional, non-profit hospital group that includes St. Josefs-Hospital Rheingau and Otto‑Fricke Hospital, serving the Wiesbaden/Rheingau‑Taunus area. Faced with rising patient numbers, growing costs and a shortage of specialists in rural areas, the group needed a way to intensify cross‑site collaboration, reduce time doctors spend traveling, and maintain high‑quality, coordinated care across locations.

The hospitals implemented Avaya Equinox Video (with XT room systems and an Elite 6100 MCU) in partnership with euromicron to enable secure, real‑time video case discussions. Doctors now hold daily case rounds and a weekly tumor board by video, share images and vital data, save significant travel time (the tumor board alone saves about one day’s travel), speed decision‑making, improve training for junior staff, and are expanding to include external providers and remote diagnostics to help offset the rural specialist shortage.
