Coastal Californian Community Deploys Avaya Network to Enable Mission-Critical Applications

The City of Redondo Beach, a coastal municipality with a lean IT staff and rising demand for advanced services, faced the challenge of supporting mission‑critical public safety applications and expanding wireless needs on a shrinking budget. With multiple primary and remote sites and tech‑savvy users, the city needed a more reliable, easy‑to‑manage network to deliver higher levels of service without added personnel.

Redondo Beach engaged Black Box to deploy an Avaya Fabric Connect–based network, replacing core routers and 43 switches and refreshing Wi‑Fi across key facilities. The upgrade delivered immediate benefits: more reliable VoIP and public‑safety systems (license‑plate recognition, mobile data, on‑person video, 911 dispatch), drastic reductions in outages during deployment, major time savings for IT (network extensions went from 1–2 hours to under 5 minutes), faster installs, and a future‑ready platform for video surveillance and further expansion.
