Avaya Strengthens Mother-Child Bond with Innovative Video Conferencing Solution

Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) needed a better way to keep mothers and families connected to newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The existing single pair of laptops was staff‑intensive and provided only intermittent visibility, leaving discharged or remote parents anxious, interfering with bonding and post‑partum recovery, and limiting remote consultations and medical collaboration.

HUG implemented Avaya Equinox video conferencing in under three months to create 24/7 “Mother‑Child Video Virtual Rooms” accessible on laptops, tablets and smartphones with encrypted, password‑protected streams. The service restored family connections, freed several hours of staff time each day, reduced training and travel costs through remote collaboration and medical training, and improved care efficiency and patient satisfaction for hundreds of families annually.
