A Avaya Case Study
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde modernized communications for Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and the adjoining Royal Hospital for Children—one of the UK’s largest acute-care sites with more than 1,100 beds and some 6,000 phone extensions. Facing the challenge of improving patient experience across a vast campus while protecting prior investments and proving strong ROI, the board sought a scalable, mobile-first approach to keep clinicians connected and reduce missed calls and delays in care.
Working with BT and Avaya, NHSGGC deployed an Avaya Aura IP platform with one-number portability, presence/instant messaging, survivable edge gateways and wireless handsets, enabling clinicians to “carry their extension in their pocket.” The rollout delivered an IP-based environment that supports the large hospital footprint, improved nursing mobility and collaboration, sped patient transfers and diagnostics, and produced converged-IP best practices that can be applied across NHSGGC’s wider estate.
