Alliance Inc. swaps aging infrastructure for Avaya IP Office, Networking

Alliance Inc., a Baltimore-based nonprofit serving people with disabilities, employs about 700 staff and stakeholders across seven locations. As the organization grew, its aging PBXs and data network caused frequent outages, limited concurrency and mobility, and strained a two-person IT team—threatening an upcoming electronic medical records (EMR) rollout that required more bandwidth, reliability and support.

Alliance consolidated with Comcast fiber, Avaya IP Office and networking deployed by partner DVX, choosing an on-premise IP solution to centralize phones, conferencing and management. The new system provides mobile reachability, a private conference bridge, HIPAA-grade network security, and capacity for up to 46 concurrent calls (vs. 4–8 before); backup time fell ~60%, monthly communications costs dropped about 10%, and IT overhead was reduced while scalability for EMR, video and email was ensured.
