Delta Air Lines faced a sudden collapse in travel demand during the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving some teams with surplus capacity while others had critical gaps. To support employees and maintain operations, Delta repurposed the Avature platform—previously used for external recruiting—to rapidly design an internal mobility program that could redeploy staff, manage job shares and communicate targeted opportunities.
Using Avature, Delta launched dedicated landing pages for hiring leaders and employees, posted short-term assignments on its internal career site with HRIS integration, and automated end-date and screening processes to enable a “gig” approach to talent mobility. Avature’s flexibility helped Delta achieve a 100% use rate of interested employees, avoid involuntary furloughs of U.S.-based staff, and create upskilling and redeployment pathways that sustained operations and employee engagement.
