NYC Fleet Uses Business Intelligence to Tackle Fleet Traffic Crashes with Vision Zero

New York City Fleet, which manages more than 29,000 city vehicles, partnered with AssetWorks to support Mayor de Blasio’s Vision Zero initiative to reduce traffic fatalities. The challenge was to accurately track and wide-ranging collision and fleet-safety metrics—collisions by agency and location, injuries and fatalities, pedestrian impacts, preventive maintenance, inspections, driver training and safety equipment—to turn data into prevention rather than acceptance.

Using AssetWorks’ FleetFocus BI—custom Crystal Reports for weekly 3‑level summaries, real-time dashboards for emergency, roadside and parts workflow management, and ad hoc reporting for flexible analysis—NYC Fleet gained actionable visibility across operations. According to the City, these tools have helped reduce fleet-related fatalities and injuries and supported broader Vision Zero outcomes such as the 25 mph default speed limit, stricter enforcement, and passage of 12 traffic-safety bills.
