A AssetWorks Case Study
The State of Utah Fleet Division, which manages about 7,500 vehicles across more than 60 agencies, was tasked with meeting the governor’s goal to boost state energy efficiency by 20% and complying with HB110’s mandates to cut costs, lower carbon emissions, and reduce dependence on foreign oil. Facing large-scale procurement, maintenance and utilization challenges, the fleet needed better data and coordinated policies to drive measurable efficiency gains.
Using AssetWorks’ FleetFocus to centralize historical and real‑time fleet data, Utah implemented data-driven actions such as vehicle and fleet right‑sizing (116 vehicles downsized in year one), driver behavior programs, expanded hybrid and CNG adoption, and motor‑pool options. These measures delivered tangible results: miles driven fell ~3.5%, fuel consumption dropped ~3%, CO2 emissions decreased by 3,700 metric tons (equivalent to removing 672 vehicles), and an estimated $1.8 million annual savings from extended vehicle life cycles.
