How FleetFocus Helps Chesapeake Accomplish Its Mission to Protect the Investment of Their City’s Citizens

The City of Chesapeake’s Central Fleet Management (CFM) oversees 1,800 on- and off-road vehicles with a $9.5M operating budget serving over 200,000 residents. CFM faced an aging fleet (about one-third past its lifecycle), an outdated mainframe system, tight budgets and privatization pressures that made it difficult to control costs, contain repairs and demonstrate staff productivity.

Implementing AssetWORKS’ web-enabled FleetFocus gave Chesapeake real-time maintenance tracking, a technician portal and powerful reporting to flag lifecycle-exceeded vehicles and drive data-backed decisions. As a result, repair turnaround fell from 10 to under 4 days, comeback rates dropped from 8–14% to <2%, overdue PMs declined by ~75%, customer satisfaction rose from ~20% to over 75%, and analysis showing 73% of the budget servicing 43% of vehicles enabled targeted retirements and cost savings that helped fend off privatization.
